Deildartunguhver

Deildartunguhver is a hot spring in Reykholtsdalur, Iceland. It is characterized by a very high flow rate for a hot spring (180 liters/second) and water emerges at 97 °C. It is the highest-flow hot spring in Europe.[1]

Some water is used for heating, being piped 34 kilometers to Borgarnes and 64 kilometers to Akranes.

Settlement Center

In two of Borgarnes’s oldest buildings, The Settlement Center is devoted to recreating Iceland’s earliest days and introduces visitors to one of the best-known heroes of the Icelandic Sagas, Egil Skalla-Grimsson. It also houses a cozy licensed restaurant, a café, and a souvenir shop.

Grábrók Volcanic Crater

The largest of three craters in a short volcanic fissure. Beautiful scenery over Borgarfjordur is from the top of the Grabrok crater.

Krauma Geothermal Baths and Spa

Krauma is a natural geothermal bath & spa at Deildartúnguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. The hot water originates in Europe’s most powerful hot spring Deildartúnguhver, at a temperature of 100°C (212°F). Krauma has a total of six baths, five warm and one cold.

Reykholt Village

Reykholt is one of Iceland’s most notable historical sites. It houses a cultural centre and a church.

Reykholt is most famous for being the home of Iceland’s best-known author Snorri Sturluson during the years 1206-1241. An ancient geothermally-heated pool, Snorralaug, is named after him. It is one of the few things preserved whole from Iceland´s medieval period.

Snorralaug Pool

Snorralaug is thought to have been used by locals since the 12th century, making it possibly the oldest human-used hot spring in the country. It was one of the first ten archaeological remains to be listed in Iceland in 1817. The basin is constructed entirely of hewn stones of silica sinter. It is approximately 4 m in diameter and 0,7-1,0 m deep.

Víðgelmir Cave

Take an unforgettable journey into Iceland’s largest lava cave Víðgelmir in comfort. A unique opportunity to discover the deep impact volcanic eruptions have played in shaping the Icelandic culture has fueled its mythical stories.

Hraun- and Barnafossar Waterfalls

This series of pristine waterfalls trickles, gushes, and flows out of a craggy lava field that formed when a volcano erupted under a glacier.

Iceland's Historic Húsafell Stone

The Húsafell Stone is a legendary lifting stone weighing 186 kg (410 lb). The stone has been used as a test of physical strength by either simply lifting the stone, or by lifting and carrying it around the sheep and goat pen. The Stone is also known as pen slab (Kvíahellan in Icelandic), because its original purpose was to act as the gate to the sheep and goat pen, ensuring the animals remain in the pen without escaping.

Langjökull Glacier - Into the Glacier

The longest man-made ice cave in the world is located in one of Iceland’s 269 named glaciers – Langjökull. When you arrive at the glacier, an experienced guide will take you on an hour-long tour through the glacier tunnels. You’ll put on the mandatory crampons, which will allow you to move easily on the ice.

Langjökull, Icelandic for “long glacier,” is the second largest ice cap in Iceland (953 km2), after Vatnajökull.

Giljaböð - Húsafell Canyon Baths

Escape the ordinary on an enchanting wilderness and waterfall walk through the Icelandic Highlands to a hidden hot spring framed by a magnificent volcanic canyon. Located on the edge of the Icelandic highlands in West Iceland, Húsafell Canyon Baths offer a completely natural and authentic bathing experience in extraordinary surroundings.

Þingvellir National Park

No single place epitomizes the history of Iceland and the Icelandic nation better than Þingvellir by the river Öxará. At Þingvellir – literally “Assembly Plains” – the Alþing general assembly was established around 930 and continued to convene there until 1798. Major events in the history of Iceland have taken place at Þingvellir and therefore the place is held in high esteem by all Icelanders. Today Þingvellir is a protected national shrine. According to the law, passed in 1928, the protected area shall always be the property of the Icelandic nation, under the preservation of the Alþing.
